2017-03-23

Date: 2017-03-23
Start: 10:56
Present: Doug, Frank, Matthias, Bodhi
Location: Harzgerode
Language: English

Outcomes:

  • AP: Matthias will start meeting on friday at 10.00 am.
  • Rough consensus: No smoking in the house.
  • AP: Clarify the use of linear time.
  • AP: How to increase awareness the potential problems about drugs and in doing so help people autonomously avoid them.

Diskussion on the meeting start time: In general, we all did not really feel pressure to start on time. Still, there seems to be the need for that to happen. Matthias will take care that the meeting starts 10.00am tomorrow.

Frank: When thinking about meetings, think about if it is really necessary. Ask a question, then think if that is necessary. Maybe we don't have anything important to talk about at all.
Bodhi: Thinks we already collected quite some questions so there is stuff to talk about. We could've collected even more. Feels that going very deep with needs etc. is important but lacks motiviation now. Feels the same for others
Doug: Suggests having people forming proposals out of specific dreams to have the others decide on that. Feels that we already started with having a basic group structure and can go on from here.
Frank explains that a lot of topics are connected and we can reach a lot by starting somewhere and see where it goes.

Looking for a topic to talk about now: Handling of drugs, handling of money in/around the house,

(Things got a bit heated... motivation was low and the reason for us meeting was vague. We decided to talk about drugs as we went for a walk)

  • Drugs are substances which lead to perceptual and behavioral changes in an individual due to pharmacological effects. Tea, cigarettes, alcohol and heroin are considered to be drugs. Yoga, homeopathic remedies and cuddling are not considered to be drugs, despite being able to release endogenous drugs such as dopamine, oxytocin, etc.
  • Some drugs are legal, some are illegal. Some are socially acceptable, others not. Some drugs are more harmful and some drugs are less harmful.
  • Drugs that are consumed by smoking pose a direct, physical harm to others since incomplete combustion leads to the emission of irritating, carcinogenic and otherwise harmful compounds such as tar, particulate matter, polyaromatic hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide.
  • Smoke usually emanates through a house due to social and structural reasons. Rough consensus to have no smoking inside the house, although some interest expressed by Doug and Matthias to build an air-locked, negative-pressure room for indoor smoking at some point in future.
  • Alcohol: legal, socially acceptable but ranked as the most harmful drug overall. Alcohol is very addictive to some people and can lead to a range of undesirable behaviors. For people who have recovered from alcohol addiction, being around alcohol can be hard. For those who feel capable of enjoying alcohol in moderation, a blanket ban is undesirable. General opinion was not to ban alcohol or set concrete limits (i.e. For Doug one beer is equal to three beers for Axel) but to proceed with mindfullness to potential problems.
  • What is a problem at all? Drugs not a problem in themselves (i.e. a bag of crack on a table is not a problem.) Problems are subjective. The main problem that was identified regarding drugs was not achieving greater goals. For example, drinking a beer at any given point may be a minor goal, but dealing with addiction and health problems resulting from lots of drinking prevents you from creating excellent open-source software.
