Post-it notage

Individuals write on post-it notes to ensure conciseness. Post-it notes are about 8 cm by 8 cm; you can write about 250 characters of text on one if you take your time - for comparison, a tweet is 140 characters. By asking individuals to write on a post-it note, the need to carefully select what to write is made clear. This can be useful in events where information overload or excessive duration could become problems.

Example: At the first meeting of a large group of people there is a time for personal introductions;

  1. Facilitator ensures notes and pencils in place.
  2. Facilitator asks individuals to take two minutes to write;
    1. their use-name
    2. three words to describe how they feel
    3. something they can teach others about
    4. something they would like to learn about
    5. a way to be contacted
  3. After two minutes, facilitator asks group to read out just what they've written, starts with themself.
  4. After last person speaks, meeting continues.
  5. After meeting, notes collected and displayed on a board.
