Online systemic consensus

Seeking review

Online systemic consensus is type of Systemic consensus and contains all the phases of the core process. In holding decisions online, longer periods of time can be used for the different steps, reducing the intensity and allowing more time for thought.

This article is mostly instructional - if you wish to learn more about the process conceptually you are recommended to read Systemic consensus or Decision making theory.

If you want to facilitate an online SysCon, please refer to the article, How to facilitate online SysCon

If you have any questions, please have a look at the FAQ. If you still have questions or require help please get in touch with Janina Abels, Joachim Thome or Douglas Webb.

The question

If you want to ask a question within a group or team by online SysCon, have a read over the Question forming guidance then go right ahead.

 Asking a question to the whole organisation?

It's worth seeing if a question is appropriate for the whole yunity organization before asking. If you're considering asking a question to the entire yunity organization, post it on the 'question forming' column of the Decision Trello board. It is recommended to look over the Question forming guidance to make questions that people are happy to answer. A question can be brought to systemic consensus if two other 'would-be-voters' back the question;

Question accepted

Doug Webb:
"Where should we have the LAN party?"
Joachim Thome:
"I second the question, 'Where should we have the LAN party?' "
Janina Abels:
"I third the question, 'Where should we have the LAN party?' "

Question forming still in progress

Doug Webb:
"Where should we have the LAN party?"
Joachim Thome:
"I second the question, 'Where should we have the LAN party?' "
Janina Abels:
"I think we should ask 'When should we have the LAN party?' "

Participation self-selection

Systemic consensus
In order to figure out how you should participate in a systemic consensus, ask yourself the following;
  • Do I feel that the outcome will affect me?
  • Do I feel that I will be accountable for the outcome of the decision?
  • Do I feel that I will be part of doing the outcome of the decision?

If you answer 'yes!' to...

  • none, feel free to witness the process silently or to spend your time somewhere else.
  • one, give your needs, wants and values and also your proposals in the consensus cycle.
  • two or all, participate in the whole consensus cycle with voting.

Systemic consensus cycle

Express needs, wants and values

Think about how the topic makes you feel and consider the feelings of the other participants. A riseup pad (pad.riseup.net) will be provided for this phase and the link can be found;

  • In the Slack notification from the person facilitating the SysCon
  • In the description of the question on business.konsensieren.eu
  • In the Decisions Trello board (if the decision is for the whole yunity organization)
  • In the respective wiki calendar (if someone has added it)

Form proposals

  • In the respective wiki calendar (if someone has bothered to add it)
  • In the Decisions Trello board (if the decision is for the whole yunity organization)

Vote

Consider the proposals to answer the question and register your resistance against each. Voting can be done as soon as the 'Form proposals' phase has finished and you will have at least three days to do so. The konsensierung from the previous phase will be used and the link can be found;

  • In the respective wiki calendar (if someone has bothered to add it)
  • In the Decisions Trello board (if the decision is for the whole yunity organization)

The Decision

The outcome is announced in the same way that it was initially announced. If 'Further solutions' is selected, the start of the next cycle of the process will be announced. If a reevaluation is to occur, the start of the cycle will be announced.
