Dear Sir/Madam

My name is Doug Webb and I am searching for work spaces for the yunity project. Any property is of interest to us - whatever the condition, time-frame, capacity or location.

The yunity project is creating the yunity platform: a free, open-source web application for multi-saving and sharing. We are turning our slogan 'imagine sharing everything' into reality by facilitating the transfer of abundance towards need and away from waste. yunity is building on the success of foodsharing.de, a platform that has saved over 4.5 M Kg of food in and around Germany over the last four years. We will first spread this opportunity world-wide then focus on clothes, spaces, skills… until everything is used to its fullest potential!

I joined the project at its conception in Malo, Italy 9 months ago (2015-09-20) and became captured by the idea, the people and their passion. I have fully dedicated my time and energy to the the project since then and have learned through doing more than I ever thought possible, becoming a Scrum master, facilitating community development, securing and organizing resources and more. With over 50 people, we contribute our work without being paid a single Euro; indeed the project has no bank account and thus makes no direct transactions. Free from much of the bureaucracy and insecurity brought by working for money, the environment of yunity has allowed me to contribute truly unconditionally and has been an incredible experience.

How have we managed to do this? We work in sprints - affectionately called WuppDays - where property is lent to us without charge. We are currently in our 8th WuppDays near Weimar, Germany where contributors live, work and play together. We rescue food that would have been wasted from markets and supermarkets. Many of the contributors - myself included - travel almost exclusively by hitch-hiking. The motivation to ‘get it done’ and the urge to actually be the change moves convenience and comfort to secondary considerations.

This way of working does have it’s limitations; Firstly, the amount of project work done when contributors are not in the same place - approximately half the time the project has been in existence - greatly decreases. Secondly, a considerable quantity of energy that would be put directly into getting the software up-and-running is diverted into travelling, preparing, repairing and deep-cleaning property, each time we move.

A more stable working environment would have a very large impact on how quickly we can deliver our solution towards saving more of the 1.3 Bn Tonnes of food wasted around the world every year.
