This policy outlines how the yunity project uses money. In short, this policy states that yunity does not use money as an organization. If money is used on behalf of yunity, it is done by proxy and recorded.

Herein,

  • 'money' refers to any currency (e.g. bank notes, coins, bullion, BitCoins, electronic bank balance, etc.)
  • 'resource' refers to non-monetary resource (i.e. property, pens, food, vehicles, etc).

1. Assumption

This policy assumes that yunity aims to achieve it's Vision and Mission in as short a time as possible whilst using as little money as possible.

2. Protocol

This is a set of actions for acquiring the necessary resources for yunity. Each action should be considered more preferable than the one following it.

2.1. Avoidance

Avoiding the use money on behalf of yunity is the starting consideration.

  1. Is it necessary? Take a moment to consider whether we need this resource.
  2. Can we acquire the resource without using money? The following sub-list of options is not extensive;
    1. Reclamation: Rescue the resource from being wasted, abandoned or unused.
    2. Construction: Make the resource from other available resources.
    3. Borrowing: Ask an individual or organization who already has the resource to lend it.
    4. Donation: Ask an individual or organization who already has the resource to give it - this is different to someone purchasing a resource explicitly to donate it, see Proxy transaction below.

2.2.

No one is expected to use money on behalf of yunity. If an individual or organization wishes to purchase a resource to donate to yunity to help yunity achieve theit's Vision and Mission, they can. In this case they are recommended to consult 5. Collaborate with yunity to see which resources yunity actually needs. For anything that is explicitly purchased to donate to yunity, it is recommended to record the name of purchaserdonor, date of transaction and a copy of receipt. Recording these details is optional but highly recommended; it is not to glorify donors but to indicate identify where yunity is still in some way reliant on money . Knowing where our dependencies lie will help us achieve even lower running costs in the future- this knowledge will direct efforts into finding ways to avoid use of money for the resource in question in future and help yunity to achieve it's Vision and Mission whilst using as little money as possible.

3. Changes

Changes to this policy are to be made using the result of Online systemic consensus where at least one week is given for each the proposal forming phase and the voting phase and the #core-team Slack channel has been notified.
