One of my focuses during the wuppdays will lie rethinking the way we organize, writing (hopefuly with Doug some manuals), shifting from propertery software to libre, focusing and cristalizing collaboration possibilities and see how we can activate yunity contributers.

As that is one of the main areas of work of Ecobytes, providing free/libre tools and related workflows to (disperse) teams and networks, it would definitely be an interesting focus, also for us.

Are there madresses which can be used?

Sure, there are mattresses, although not 20-30. I would check in the next house meeting how we could think this. Would you all like to sleep directly in the house, very tight, or is it ok and desired to also look for places around (WGs, Yurt and caravans, etc.)?

...

Is there a foodsharing initative ( I think I remember the last time I've been there yes). How is the dumpster situation?

There is a Essensverschenkregal at the entrance of TT, but it's quite small and busy at all times (so not to expect a lot). There is a lot of people containering, which is why in Witzenhausen itself it is difficult to find good containers. Usually Bad Sooden (15 km from here) had quite good containers, but I heard last week they fenced it hard.

However, there is a good scene for this (see e.g. http://containerprozesswiz.blogsport.de/1), and I think we could use your event to mobilize/create a momentum with the community.

are there fruit trees we can pick, or other food we can harvest.

There are many fruit trees around, but I guess by November most are out of season, apart maybe from some late apple trees. Transition Town Witzenhausen has active work on this (harvesting abandoned orchards, finding owners who are willing to share, etc.), so we could possibly use it. But, again, November will be limited in the amount supplied, and people here (remember, it's a faculty of ecological agriculture) are already very good in getting hold of available resources.

Furthermore, we can also ask the local CSA initiative to provide some vegetables and potatoes. In any case, there is twice a week some surplus left, which can be taken by anyone. We could ask if it would be ok to offer this to you directly. Again, it's November, so vegetable production will be very low in comparison to now.

...

I would like to have it in November for 2-4 weeks.

Please clarify the desired length with your group. Also, it would be important to understand how you want to contribute to the house, especially as you are probably not paying a contribution. This can be in the form of renovation of maintenance works, organisation of events generating income (e.g. cooking, cafés, etc.). The house is passing through a quite critical situation (although improving), both in terms of finances and collaborators, so it would be very important to see how your stay could contribute to improve the dynamics.

I would need to bring ideas to the Transition House assembly, ideally already for the one next week. Or I ask the people to express what they would like to have from you, and we initiate dialogue.

For the hackerspace (3rd floor of the house), which is directly rented by Ecobytes, we obviously provide you with the space unconditionally, so the request above is only for the usage of the remaining hous.

Looking forward for the yunity bunch to come Image Removed

Welcome to the Wuppdays #12 in Witzenhausen. This time we're hosted by a Transition Town(TT) initiative. So it's a great place to network, learn from each other and support where we can.
Do you want to join? We would like to have you here! But have a look into the following description to find out if these wuppdays and circumstances are interesting to you.

About the place:

The Transition House is located in Witzenhausen. A little town popular for having the first place in Germany to only/fully study ecological agriculture. Which seems to have a great influence. Although the city is small there are many initiatives doing social and commons work.

It's a great opportunity to explore and open rooms for transparent communication and to encourage more people to being active. The group of TT is looking for support to build a working team to  maintain the house. This includes practical work like repairing broken showers, but also creating a team that is transparent and welcoming in its communication.
The place is looking for people willing to contribute.

The Transition House

What is happening here?
It's like a platform developing transition. Internal like external. There's a meeting room in the primarily used as a open café or for jam sessions, meetings, workshops etc.
It is also a great opportunity to find out what you/we have to offer while hosting these events. There's a recurring repair café in the hacking space. A cooking team brings people together and provides food on donation basis.
There's a co-working space, mainly used by ecobytes and transformap or a gallery for painting...etc.

rooms:

It has four floors hosting a diverse spectrum of groups. Engaging with the different groups, and finding out how we can support each other is more then appropriated.

sleeping
There are three rooms which are used as sleeping spaces. There are around 6 "normal" mattresses at this moment, a couch to sleep on and some camping mattresses. Beside that there's a living room with a sleeping couch to host 2-3 people in the so called hacking space floor. All in all it fits around 15.

food:

There are some supermarkets around, the dumpsters are filled from time to time. There is no existing cooperation up until now. There is a farmers market nearby, but we need to drive to get there. Can be by bike or car (which Hans-Christian Eick got offered). If someone likes to work with the initiative Solawi (community supported agriculture - CSA) that would be another possibility to get some left overs (everything biological.)

social:
Everyone I met so far is really open and friendly. The place was very welcoming to me. Communication between those who are already longer involved contains from time to time some unsolved conflicts. ...but nothing special, as people work with different working styles/opinions longer together. So there are some unfulfilled needs. I just bring it up to invite you in case you are interested in contributing to the solving process.

Why to have the wuppdays here?

There are a couple of initiatives here that have very similar goals. Working for the commons. Every support we do here is supporting yunity even if it isn't directly supporting "our" group. It supports  strengthening the network around commons economy and local initiatives.
Ecobytes and transformap are also located here. Both connected to the idea of creating a multi-sharing online platform. Maxim from inventaire (book sharing), very enthusiastic about open data will be  here as well.

What to do while the wuppdays?

Well it's wuppdays, so everyone should feel encouraged to do what you feel like doing. When it's about housework we're in this moment creating a kanban, where we list the outstanding tasks nicely.
Already active projects/ideas part of yunity are:

  • glocall yunity (discussing about concept and building web page)
  • foodsaving tool (continue to work on the foodsaving tool mainly by Tilmann)
  • hosting events (ak asyl, küfa, yunity, freemarket, living and action spaces, decision finding...etc. )
  • communication within yunity (internal and external....incl. information flow, exclusion/inclusion, online tools...etc.)
  • mapping
  • wupphouse meetings
  • dumpter diving
  • cooking
  • facilitation
  • documentation
  • building a house team
  • setting up foodsharing
  • wild food picking
  • ....and much more, if we do so

Frameworks

As an addition to this, two frameworks which came out of the meeting from 03.11.2016 with folks from TT. Normal people pay. With yunity it's different.
"Volunteering as donation"
"If you like to use money, donation is appreciated"

Timeframe:

This time the wuppdays contain 2 different time frames:
The first one is fixed and:
When: now until 15.11.2016

After this there will be additional wuppdays. Whether they will happen will be decided around the 10.11.2016 depending on how well the different needs are getting served.
Time frame for this would be at least 2 more weeks.

What you could bring with you:

  • motivation
  • openness
  • sleeping bag (there are some blankets but not enough for all. If you don't have a sleeping bag it's fine)
  • camping mattress (if you have one, bring it. If not also fine.)
  • food (if you could manage to collect some food on your way here, that would be great. In this moment we're missing potatoes, bread, pasta, lentils etc. update about this in the Witzenhausen channel)

So you're still reading? Seems like you are really considering to come?
If you wanna come, please fill out this poll showing when you'd like to come and a pad describing a bit your interest.
Poll: https://poll.disroot.org/2CClNZUU8MdreNYU (official invitation is from now until 15.11.2016)
Pad: https://pad.disroot.org/p/witzenhausen

Where:

Brückenstraße 20

37213 Witzenhausen

You can hitchhike easily. Train also works. There's a stop directly in Witzenhausen.

Beside the TT House Jon from ecobytes and transformap offered us his flat from the 7-15.11, so we have extra sleeping space. (3-4 people)

Hope to see you soon! (smile)
