Collective agreements

  1. Decisions are made in meetings by rough consensus or, if agreeable to a majority, by systemic consensus.
  2. Rough consensus: If a person puts forward a proposal and no one opposes it, it is adopted. If someone opposes it, discussion resumes on the current point.
    1. For clarity the proposer should be explicit in stating their proposal and in asking for opposition, for example: "I propose x. Does anyone oppose this?".
    2. Opposition can  be expressed verbally or by raised hand.
  3. Systemic consensus: If a person calls for a decision and a majority are in favor, a systemic consensus is taken, otherwise discussion resumes on the current point.
  4. For clarity the proposer should be explicit in calling for a decision and asking for a majority, "I call for a decision regarding y. Would you prefer to continue discussing... or come to a decision?".
  5. Preference is indicated by raised hands. This procedure upholds values of autonomy, equality and acceptability. It is inspired by Systemisches Konsensieren, Roberts Rules of Order, Dragon Dreaming and The Membership Hanbook of the Anarchist Federation. (2017-03-21: ML, BN, DW, FO)
  6. Stop doing something if you are asked to. This measure is to help allow people to act individually and prevent conflicts from escalating. (2017-03-22: ML, BN, DW, FO)
  7. Don't smoke inside the house. This measure is to prevent non-smokers from the harmful effects of smoke (irritation, carcinogenicity, etc.) (2017-03-23: ML, BN, DW, FO)
