What is Kompott?

A housing project spanning four adjacent blocks in Chemnitz. Over 100 rooms house a self-described “colorful conglomeration of people who wants to create private and social freedom in an otherwise weaned of urban fun city this living and cultural project”. Read more about it on their website.

Where is Kompott?

Essentially 20 minutes walk West of the Hauptbahnhof.

Living at Kompott

  • Gates: The gates to the outside world are open during the daytime but are closed at 20:00 to prevent vandalism. If you find a gate open after 20:00, tell someone or lock it yourself.

  • Getting in: Call Bodhi Neiser on +49 160 5535078, message Douglas Webb on slack, knock on the doors, make noise...

  • It is cold. Please take care to stay warm and look out for others who might not realise they are getting cold. There are wooden stoves in many of our communal areas which can be lit and the Umsonstladen has loads of clothes you can borrow/keep (combination: 537)

  • Travelling between blocks is possible through the garden (keys needed) or through the attic (no keys needed, torch needed and please be quiet).

  • Keys: Many of the rooms we will be using have locks and should remain locked when no one is using them. All of the keys are found on the map-board inside the main Wupp room (Number 21) - feel free to use them, just make sure to return as soon as you’re finished.

  • Siren: If you hear a loud siren, run into the yard - nazi sympathisers might be attacking the Kompott.

  • The Guest Flats: We currently have also access to the guest flat, but may have to leave at short notice.

  • Bikes: At the moment one cargo bike is available for us to use for dumpstering, food-pickups, etc. code is: 1503. We also have one normal bike as well, code: 8143. Other bikes need to be repaired, which is also a nice gift to the Kompott people. Ask Bodhi Neiser if you want to fix bikes, he has all the info.

  • Communication: Primarily through the 'chemnitz-participants' channel on slack. This is a private channel you must be invited to - pester people until you get invited (Douglas Webb).

  • Schedule: What little is scheduled can be found on the wiki calendar (top right, click the little arrow, add existing calendar, search for 'WuppDays').
  • Internet: The wifi is patchy, but available in most places. 'chemnitz.freifunk.net' is a free, open network but there are security issues and you are recommended to use our wifi network, 'wuppdays' (password: dragonlove)
  • Attendance: We have a spreadsheet for keeping on top of who's here - please make sure your attendance details are accurate.
  • Dumpster-diving: The bins of Chemnitz are rich enough to feed a surprising number of people, mapped here.
