Location: Kirchheim
Intention: To have a 'celebration' type event to reflect upon the experience and learning gathered from WuppDays #6, Rotterdam, 2016-03-21 to 2016-04-11. This was to build upon the WuppDays #6 retrospective which was held online, to give people a chance to communicate in real life.
Outcomes:
A round for people to express their feelings and thoughts was first held. A letter written by @Nick Sellen was read by @Douglas Webb on his behalf. @Douglas Webb then read out the 'three questions' section from WuppDays #6 retrospective before a facilitated dialogue began;
[Begins: 17:10]
JT: Would like to lead Nonviolent communication workshop. Felt that most logistical problems solved in Kirchheim.
JA: Glad that buddy scheme now implemented. Liking that schedule is being kept to - let's keep it up.
TF: Felt like I had three buddies in Rotterdam, perhaps lucky.
BG: Nick was sad to leave Tess when he left.
MC: Agree that connection rounds are useful, more would be good.
JA: Good to have a silent wuppspace!
DW: *waves frantically*
BG: Feels we should stick to group decisions (regarding schedule, etc). Would like to have consistent wuppdays flow. Better place based on needs, not just availability. Clear list of venue requirements would be good.
DW: Lists already written, need to be consolidated. Asks EL about how the rounds lead by Shannon were.
EL: Always one hour, one hour before dinner. Facilitation method (there is a one page we can read). Should not be mandatory: can go or not go.
JA: Does it scale?
EL: Yes, with facilitation.
BG: Started with very short 'how you feel'. Big circles should split.
JT: Wants to point out we can relax (wrt making decisions) - we are reflecting.
DW: Personal experience wrt meetings: 4 hours scheduling per day is ambitious, better to be hyper-realistic. Starting on time gets people to be on time.
JT: Send these things generally to Structure team, Slack in person, etc
MC: Would like to build up personal relationships more, find it difficult as I work. People that have the time to connect people personally, not just online or on a board. Like pastoral support.
BG: Define rules and advice based on experience (scheduling advice, keeping on time, real-life artifacts, etc).
EL: With circles, perhaps explain what we're doing then explain how we're feeling: allows people to connect on 'business terms' and can then leave if not interested in feelings. Will Structure do that?
JT: Perhaps, maybe yes.
TC: When you hear discontentment, it can multiply because people who don't mind might not say anything. Circle - the fear of too much formality: perhaps approaching directly insteading of just having it on the schedule is nice. For example, Shannon approached then convinced me.
EL: Perhaps can be incorporated into buddy scheme?
MS: I have a limited ability just to talk, although I want to make connections: perhaps making connection through activities is a nice way.
TC: Too many scheduled things. A feeling that if I miss scheduled events, I leave the community. Worried that new people to community might be affected. Can't fully be yourself in group settings. Especially concerned about own friends.
