2017-03-2? Finding a purpose

Think about individually: What events brought each of us here? (Will be collected together chronologically afterwards) Process rejected. We split for 20 minutes, think about the events, feelings and motivations that brought us here (to start a housing project), record this however we want (or not) and then present each other.

Bodhi: Did not recall major events before being 18 that obviously influenced his relationship with current values and motivation. Growing up in different communities (also spiritual) shaped his life in general.

  • Book "Wie kommt der Hunger in die Welt?" ( made him think very much about unequality, capitalism, how the world works etc.) and gave him an urge to do something. Lead to weltwärts on the philipines (2009)
  • 2011 moved to a very nice shared flat in hamburg with nice talks, political actions etc. Also there had first dumpster diving experience which led him to foodsharing (2013)
  • There he went to the first foodsharing meeting in Ludwigsburg which made him very sure to have found a big motivation and meaningful thing in his life. Was a strong workaholic in that time (experienced the deep flow for the first time)
  • 2014 first und jetzt conference which let him work out with different eyes because there are so many people with similar interests, all the love that is put into the event. Made him think about becoming a nomad.
  • 2015 he went to the Malo wuppdays because he had nothing else todo. The event was not so spectacular to him but he stayed with those people because he loved them and felt great within
  • Later, the need to have a fixed base arose in him also because there were regular wuppdays each needing so much preparation time. As he had quite some money left without a useful thing to do with, he thought about either burning or just using it to buy property with it. After the Bad Dürrenberg experience, it seems obvious to him that money is the way to approach that goal and that is why he is here

Doug:

  • Period of time of becoming conscious to started acting. Was maybe depressed (at least unhappy) quite long from 8-16. Went to church in that time, started asking questions that people couldn'tanswer. Had long hair in that time, shaved it off and became happy :)
  • reading "The moneyless man" made him switch and think about what money is. Afterwards, money lost its intrinsic value for the abstract one.
  • After he left school, did some travelling, interrail, amsterdam, weed, mushrooms. The whole experience made him think differently.
  • Studied in edinburg for 5 years, met interesting people who liked him and he liked. Was a socially positive time/event.
  • There is a girl in his life with whom he has extreme experiences
  • open source ecology event in spain, first wuppdays experience. New side of technology he did not experience before. "you can actually do stuff with technology"
  • Yunity voyage: Had the possibility to fully engage
  • Back home for christmas was very nice (family, friends), but also sad time (trump, brexit, depressed friends). That encouraged him very much to come back "lack of community makes people sad". Makes the alternative very clear to him and he knows, how much he wants to keep the way

Frank: (what makes us start a housing project?)

  • effient use of resources when living together.
  • isolation of human beings is a bad thing not only for the people but also environment (human needs like car, flat to go on with work life)
  • humans are a social animal, we keep them isolated, they only go out for their jobs, normally miss deep connections to other humans. These holes are filled with consumerism, TV.
  • "What could make my life better?" is the question many people ask ->Car, running shoes, industry products. Industry masks pain that evolves due to lack of deep connections with different products.
  • This kind of life is only good for the owners of companies etc.
  • Doesn't want to live like that anymore, seeks an environment where his needs are met, where he only needs to work minimum amounts of time and has individual freedom in the rest of the time (bike tour, healthy living, learning biology, understanding life) as well as do good with knowledge he obtained.
  • "What led me there"?
  • Grew up in a little city near chemnitz. Had a lot of nature around the block where he lived. Enjoyed his time as a child being able to live outside and wants to have this again.
  • Running since 2015 and still enjoying it (wants to do triathlon)
  • would like to study biology but is afraid to do his desires as a profession, so maybe just reads about that in his own time. Would like to integrate his craftsmen skills (electriticy, wood working) into a housing project
  • looks for an almost drug free housing project for quite some time now.

Matthias:

  • focused on community experiences (forgot meaning in life :)
  • No  events worth mentionioning. normal and boring growing up
  • spent a lot of time alone, early excitement with technology
  • lafe changes with the beginning of stduying, enjoyed the community experience quite a lot, even though it was not a very deep community experience, met people interested in the same topics
  • not enough community experience living with just one person -> looking for more community. First encounter with functional living
  • community experineces wiht the "fachschaft" at university
  • working in Hamburg for working -> got to know foodsharing! People are different somehow: selfless, very open and welcoming. Never met people like this before, big change in Life
  • Met Veroinca who wanted to found a sort of community near Hamburg. Talks and meeting about community.
  • Moved into teh "deelwisch" flat, which he learned about through foodsharing. New community experince: talking about deeper topics, polyamorie
  • Quit Job and Flat, partly due to the call to the Malo Wuppdays.
  • There was no single point where I realisied "this is all wrong" or something. It just somehow turned out that way
  • travelling with yunity: urge to have a fixed place
  • BadDue experience: lead to conclusion there needs to be more talk about motivation,, needs and stuff.

Doug reads from Dragon Dreaming project design:

  • "What would it be that I couldn't have spent my time better"?
  • "What would that project needs to be so I can give it 100% commitment?"
