Silent hand signals used to communicate common feelings and requests. As people are not telepathic and writing is slow and impersonal, we communicate information mostly by talking. By being able to express feelings silently, the audio-space is kept cleaner and everyone's words have more impact. By being able to express technical points silently, facilitators can do their task better.
