Backend

Currently (2016-10-27) the backend code is licensed under AGPL-3.0. This license was selected by the consent of Tilmann, Matthias Larisch and Michael Dougherty during the first WuppDays.

Today we want to decide on a license for the source code of yunity. After a short discussion including me, @matthias and @michael, we propose the GNU AGPL 3.0.

The main reasons for this choice were:

  • Disclosure of source code required upon distribution
  • Further distribution under same conditions
  • Includes network use (if someone uses our backende [sic] code on his own server, it counts as distribution)
  • Any improvements made by third parties thus have to be made available to the public

Media files like pictures, logos and frontend will be put under a different license, which can be chosen later.

Frontend

The frontend is licensed under MIT. There was no resistance among the contributors at the time of decision.
